Okay... I did download a demo of 3d-ftp yesterday but couldn't understand how to use it. I guess I'll try again. Thank you!

Any thoughts on what could possible cause a download to freeze (besides lack of memory)?

There are several views called skins in 3D-FTP. You can find this on the row below the pull-down menu. The line starts with Connect and ends with Settings. Click on the item named Skins. The one that I find the easiest to use is called Standard Windows Look.

Once you are in this skin, click on the Connect icon (it looks like a partial globe). This will open a new window called Site Manager. Look to the right of this window and you will see a button that reads New...

Click this button and it opens another window called Add Site. You will see two lines that need information that read Site Settings - Required. One reads Site Name and the other reads FTP Host Address.

What I have been doing and it works fine is to find the show that you want to download. For example, click on this link for a Jack Johnson show
http://www.archive.org/audio/etree-details-db.php?id=1991&from=mostViewed

Notice on the left of the screen for the Show Details, you will see the following:

This recording is on:
audio12.archive.org

Just drag your mouse over audio12.archive.org and right click and copy this address. Now go back to the Add Site window in 3D-FTP. For the
lines for Site Name and FTP Host Address, just paste the audio12.archive.org line in both lines. Click the OK button.

This will take you back to the Site Manager window. You will see this new connection under the listing for All FTP Sites. Click it once with your left mouse button and it will highlight the newly created site. The top button on the right side of this window reads Connect. Click the Connect button.

Now you are connected. On the left of the screen you will see your local computer. I just create folders for the different bands that I have downloaded shows for (Little Feat, etc.) On the right side of the screen you will find the numbers 0,1,2,3 in front of folders. This represents the potential file location for your desired download. From here, you will have to look around for your desired show.

This program saves my downloads so that I can resume them later. I am using DirecWay, the satellite Internet service for doing this and I ahave varying speeds at different times. If it gets too slow, I just exit out and come back later when I can grab a better speed. This is usually early in the morning (between 5:30 and 8:00 or 9:00 EST).

I hope this helps you and good luck.

Poor connection from your Internet Service Provider could cause it.
